Photo Walks Around Lake Eola

Whether you are traveling to Orlando or have been a native your whole life like myself, Lake Eola should be on your list of photo destinations. It’s probably the most iconic part of downtown Orlando, and has been a regular part of my photo walks to include some time there.

Making a lap around the lake is a nice walk that isn’t too long and can provide a nice variety of shots. Of course there are classic landscape shots that include the fountain and taking photos of various birds that will eagerly approach you, but there’s been another scene I’ve been drawn to recently. People standing on the edge of the lake overlooking the scene, maybe as a couple or by themselves lost in thought? It’s a scene that has caught my attention each time I take a walk around the area.

Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s basically Lake Eola law that you take photos of the birds. The swans and geese usually have no problem approaching because they are quite used to people feeding them.

Next time you are in the area, give Lake Eola a walk around and see what you get. If the weather is nice, you might see some people taking the swan boats out around the fountain. Sometimes you can catch them for a cool shot. In the photo below I liked the juxtaposition between the black and white swan boats, so I tried to frame them. I managed to catch the swan boat in the distance coming in between the two in the foreground although it’s a little off. I had a few other shots where the boat was framed a bit more in the open space but I ultimately went with this one. All the photos in this post were taken with either the 23mm f2 or 50mm f2.
